About the artist --- Phylis
I find glass a fascinating medium with which to work. The brilliance of the colors, the challenge of working with a fragile yet hard substance, and the texture of the glass are all reasons I find it exciting. My favorite is free form Tiffany-Style stained glass or glass-on-glass mosaics which is like putting a puzzle together. I start with lots of small pieces of glass and until complete, I am never quite sure how it’s going to turn out until it is held up to the light and it becomes alive for me.
When I am working with my glass, I am in my element, in my happy place. It is relaxing. Time just stands still and I can work for hours just wrapped up in the creating process. One of my biggest joys is when someone “gets it” or is blown away by the colors or design.
I prefer doing commission pieces, so that I can customize colors and design to be just what the customer wants.
So much time, patience, and love goes into each and every piece that I make, that
every time I sell or gift a piece of my artwork, I give a little bit of myself with it.
Being an artist, no matter what medium, rounds out my life.
